About Beawar Old Town
Colonel Charles Dixon founded Beawar in 1836 as the headquarters of British Merwara, a walled town with four gates that became a cotton and wool market. The wall is mostly gone but the gates and the grid of the old bazaar remain, and Dixon, who died here in 1857, is buried in the town. Beawar is known across the state for tilpatti, a sesame brittle sold from the winter shops.
