About Ahichhatra
The capital of northern Panchala in the Mahabharata and a real walled city from about 600 BCE to the 11th century, its ramparts still tracing a 5 km circuit around fields near Ramnagar. ASI excavations found terracotta panels, a brick temple platform and coin sequences that helped date north Indian pottery. It is also a Jain tirth where Parshvanath is said to have attained knowledge, with a Digambar temple complex at the edge of the mound.
